With November comes Thanksgiving - a time of thanks. WALKArlington encourages you to walk while giving thanks! Learn about preserving trees at the National Cathedral, join the Help the Homeless Walkathon or America's Walk for Diabetes, or pitch in with fellow walkers and park-goers to clean Potomac Overlook. And don't forget about Arlington's Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning (proceeds benefiting Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless and Doorways for Women and Families)!
Visit our calendar for more information on these and other events.
And, in the Thanksgiving spirit, WALKArlington would like to thank our newest subscribers for signing up at Clarendon Day and the Marine Corps Marathon! Welcome!

As the night approaches sooner with daylight savings and winter, Metro is looking out for pedestrians. On October 31, Metro gave out thousands of red blinking lights to their riders to increase visability as the sun sets earlier. For the whole story, click here.
In addition, on October 30, Arlington was looking out for bikers as well. Instead of handing out $250 tickets for riding without a light, they handed out bike lights! For the full scoop, click here.

Moorpark, CA residents took steps (literally!) to better their health with the "America On the Move" campaign. Collectively, 3,000 resident participants walked more than 11 million steps throughout America On the Move week. With the help of participants all around the country, 9 billion steps were recorded. Did you know that 9.3 billion steps would walk you around the circumference of the earth 187 times -- or walk you the distance between New York City and Los Angeles 1,860 times!? Pretty cool!

That's it for November, see you in December!
